Multi-factor Authentication & Saleforce

Calling all Salesforce Users! By February 1st 2022, Salesforce will require that all users enable MFA (multi-factor authentication) in order to access Salesforce products.

What is MFA?

Multi-factor authentication is an electronic authentication method, which gives a user access to a website or app, in this case, Salesforce. Access is only granted when two or more pieces of evidence have been submitted to verify the user is who they say they are.

What are the benefits of MFA?

Multi-factor authentication improves the security of your Salesforce platform, by increasing protection for user accounts against threats, such as phishing attacks, credential stuffing and account takeovers.

You have better controls over who accesses your platform and the files stored within it as well as removing any password risk.

How could MFA affect your business processes?

If your users are sharing a single User Licence across multiple persons, this will no longer be possible. Each user will need their own Licence.

You will also be out of compliance with Salesforce contractual obligations if you do not enable MFA, this will come into play when the Salesforce Trust & Compliance Documentation is updated on 1st February 2022.

How to stop MFA from affecting your business

There are a variety of ways to stop MFA from affecting you, firstly by ensuring you have enough licences for your users.

Secondly, investigate which verification method is most appropriate for your users such as Salesforce Authenticator Mobile App, Third Party authenticator apps such as Google Authenticator and a Security key such as Yubico’s YubiKey.

Ideally, you would enable MFA as soon as possible, to prevent your business from being affected by the mandatory change.
