Planting trees and building a greener future

Taking Action for the Planet
Sustainability and future-thinking are at the forefront for Inardua. With our recent establishment in Costa Rica, we saw an opportunity to lead by example. Planting trees became a natural first step for our Costa Rican team to give back to the environment and live out our values. By planting over 30 trees, we aimed to create a tangible impact that goes beyond our Net Zero commitment—providing a growing habitat for wildlife and strengthening local ecosystems.

During our activity, we were fortunate to share a beautiful day surrounded by howler monkeys and toucans—a powerful reminder of the natural world we strive to protect.

An excellent opportunity not only to connect with nature through planting trees, but also to fill hands with soil, share with the local people and admire those green mountains with so much life, it should remind us of the importance of living in balance within the nature that surrounds us. I loved the experience <3.

Sequestering Carbon, Supporting Biodiversity
In alignment with the local flora, we selected a diverse range of tree species. Among these were Chrysophyllum cainito (Costa Rican Caimito), Syzygium malaccense (Costa Rican Malay Apple), Tabebuia rosea (Golden Trumpet Tree), Tabebuia ochracea (Costa Rican Roble Sabana), and Dalbergia (Costa Rican Cocobolo). Each species was chosen for its unique contributions to the ecosystem and its ability to thrive in the local climate and soil conditions.

The Caimito trees will produce fruit cherished by monkeys and macaws, providing vital sustenance and supporting biodiversity. The Golden Trumpet Tree attracts pollinators, while the Rosewood tree offers shelter for local fauna. Meanwhile, Dalbergia serves as a powerful carbon sequester. According to our calculations, these efforts are expected to sequester approximately 18.5 metric tons of carbon dioxide over the next 18-20 years—a measurable step towards combating climate change.

Going outside of the box with what you can possibly do to generate positive impact is an act of love for what surrounds us and Inardua has given us the chance to do that. Talking to Daniel we came to the conclusion that we are enjoying and cherishing the acts of kindness and efforts the past generations made for us. Why not do it for the upcoming ones? This is the best we can do for the next generations and certainly for the world’s flora and fauna. Random acts of kindness can make significant impact everywhere.

Overcoming Challenges and Partnering for Success
Prime planting season for trees in the tropics is the middle of the rainy season, posing unique challenges. With guaranteed noon showers, our team raced against the clock to ensure over 30 trees and saplings were securely planted before the rain arrived. Partnering up not only allowed us to work more efficiently but also made the experience deeply rewarding. Taking turns digging, planting, and overcoming obstacles together brought out the best in our team spirit. While the friendly debate over who planted the most trees continues, one thing remains certain—we all walked away feeling proud of what we accomplished.

I had one of the best days. It helped me reconnect with nature while also helping the environment. The views were amazing, and so were the people shared with. I’m grateful and lucky to have experienced that with my peers, and I hope it wasn’t the last.
